The Gallatin Watershed Sourcebook: A Resident's Guide

This publication describes the Gallatin River Watershed and all the issues involved with this special area. Read through to find information regarding water supply, recreation, water quality, septic systems, well protection and more. The booklet was developed through the cooperative effort of the Bridger Outdoor Science School, the Bureau of Reclamation, the Gallatin Local Water Quality District, Montana Watercourse, and the Natural Resources Conservation Service.

 

 

 

The Montana State of the Land

This is a summary of the Montana State of the Land report prepared by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). The Montana State of the Land is a consolidated source of reliable baseline and trend information of Montana resources and information on NRCS program activities. This report is a compilation of basic assessment information. The data supplied is from the 1992 National Resources Inventory (NRI) completed by NRCS, the 1998 Montana Agricultural Statistics and other documented sources.

 

 

 

Montana's Guide to Stream Permitting

This web page is based on a brochure that helps define what permits are needed for a variety of activities that take place within a stream corridor. The web page has an enlarged version of the adjacent diagram. Use the diagram to determine what area of the stream corridor you will be affecting, then look up a list of associated permits by letter. The pamphlet was cooperatively developed and funded by the Montana Association of Conservation Districts, Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks, Montana Department of Transportation, Montana Department of Environmental Quality, Montana Watercourse, Montana Extension Service, US Army Corps of Engineers, and the US Environmental Protection Agency.

 

 

A Catalog of Wetlands Education Materials for Montana      

This publication is a listing of wetlands education materials available to Montana’s teachers, students, educators, and interested citizens. It includes Montana-Specific Wetlands Education Materials; Rocky Mountain, Northern Great Plains, and Prairie Pothole-Specific Wetlands Education Materials; Selected General Wetlands Information Materials; Valuable Wetlands Information from Other States; Technical Information; Internet Sites; Maps; and Journals Containing Wetlands-Related Materials. The publication was compiled for the Education Work Group of the Montana Wetlands Council by Rachel Kyle, intern for the Montana Watercourse. It was originally printed by the Natural Resources Conservation Service in March of 1998.

 

 

The North Dakota Tree Information Center

The North Dakota Tree Handbook has been designed to assist specialists and lay people with forestry responsibilities in developing conservation and community tree plantings. This handbook will be useful to soil conservationists, foresters, arborists, landscape architects, nursery personnel, soil conservation district personnel, and county extension personnel. The handbook contains four main sections: Plant Species Characteristics and Applications, Plant Pictures and Descriptions, Tree Care and Maintenance, and the Glossary and Appendix

 

 

 

The Penn State Agronomy Guide

This web site is designed for easy reading and quick reference. Information is organized for many different crops under the following headings: Varieties, Nutritional requirements, Establishment, Pest Control, Harvesting, and Special considerations. Information for the two different establishment aspects of perennial crop agriculture may be found under the headings Establishment Year and Established Stands. The College of Agricultural Sciences strongly recommends that you have a soil test made to determine your lime and fertilizer needs before using the suggestions presented throughout the book. Success is directly related to correct analysis of your soils. The Penn State Agronomy Guide was prepared by extension and resident staff members of Pennsylvania State University.
